Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) in Leduc

The non-restricted firearms safety course required for a Possession and Acquisition Licence application. Built for people who have never handled a firearm.

Who this course is for

Anyone applying for a non-restricted PAL, or anyone who wants a solid safety foundation before handling firearms.

You do not need any previous experience, equipment or firearms of your own. All practice is done with inert training firearms supplied for the class.

What the course covers

  • The vital four ACTS and PROVE safe-handling practices
  • Firearm parts, actions and ammunition basics
  • Safe handling, loading, unloading and carrying
  • Safe storage, display and transportation requirements
  • Responsibilities of the firearms owner and user

How you are evaluated

The course includes a written test and a practical handling test. Both are completed on course day, and we practise the practical components thoroughly beforehand.

To pass, you need at least 80% on the written test and at least 80% on the practical test. If you do not pass a test, you may rewrite it once at no charge, no sooner than the next day and within 7 days. If more than 7 days pass, or if you do not pass the rewrite, the full course must be retaken at the regular price. Contact us to arrange a rewrite.

Want a head start? The official student handbook is free to download; see CFSC course prep.

After the course

Completing the CFSC does not issue a licence. You submit a PAL application to the Canadian Firearms Program, which makes all licensing decisions. Our how to get a PAL in Alberta guide walks through each step.

Keep your course report. A photocopy goes in with your PAL application.
